Legacy Status and Announcing Cossmass Infinities
It has been entirely too long since I have updated this site.
First things first. Estalvin's Legacy is still going strong. The next four episodes in working their way through post-production. I will begin releasing them once they are all (nearly) completed. They comprise an arc of the story and deserve to be kept together.
I've mentioned this elsewhere, but the delay is entirely my own fault. I had written the first draft of what was to be the next six episodes (7 - 12). Then, nearly a year later, went to put them into production. Whilst I loved a lot of what I had put into those scripts, the whole was ultimately unsatisfying and it wasn't going to be fixed with a simple re-edit. I needed to go back and redo them. That took a couple of false starts until I was happy.
That was where inspiration struck me. Whether this has been a good thing or not remains to be seen. For the first six episodes, all three of the main threads had to happen together. Now I can tighten the focus on particular sets of characters and move their story forward faster, rather than only a couple of scenes per episode. I won't get into the specifics, but I hope you'll enjoy the results.
I'd love to be able to tell you when to expect the next episode, but experience has taught me that I am much slower at this post-production business than I could possible have imagined. Yes, I could just put the dialogue together and put in only token sound effects and get them out much faster. There are several audio dramas that I absolutely love and respect that work perfectly with such minimalism. I prefer to put in more detail. Probably over 50% of the detail I put in isn't even noticed by well over 50% of the audience. Perhaps it is something I could learn to be slightly less . . . compulsive . . . about.
What else is happening with Cossmass Productions?
In the new year I'll be launching a new Science Fiction fiction podcast, Cossmass Infinities. I have been co-editor with Chris Moody for Steampod for part of this year. Sadly, Steampod will be shutting down after we have released the stories that we have already accepted. So, I will be starting Cossmass Infinities, initially on a monthly schedule, to put out what I think are great Science Fiction stories. There will be some Fantasy in there too. I don't make a great distinction between the two.
There are obvious predecessors that have been doing amazing thing in this area, Escapepod and family, Starship Sofa's Aural Delights and Variant Frequencies to name only a few.
Cossmass Infinities will be a paying market, with releases once a month to start. Look out for submission guidelines appearing within the week. The first episode should be published in January 2010.
